New 1911?

Well I feel like I'm wondering away from the plastic guns and am really starting to enjoy the 1911. That being said I've never owned anything bigger than the Kimber Ultra. I am in the market for a new and am thinking along the lines of a 4" In the price range of 1000 to 1500. Any ideas? There are some Kimber Pros I like but I would like to look at something other than Kimber. I'm asking because I'm somewhat new to 1911s and am not sure if there are makers I should stay away from. Thanks

I just got a S&W full-size 1911. It is unbelievably cool, and runs well. A bunch of what would be custom or upgrade work comes standard on their 1911s. Plus the infamous warranty. Not sure if they make a commander size.

Do you still have the 3" Ultra Kimber? If so, I'd recommend just going up to the full size. The Pro uses a full size grip, so the only saving is the 1" shorter barrel, which unless you're carrying OWB, doesn't mean anything.

I had a Kimber Compact, and the only thing I didn't like was the 4" barrel... wished I'd had a full size.

I have a Kimber custom II and find that I am very happy with it.

I have had several Kimbers a Colt and a couple of Sigs. I one have one right now, a Kimber Grand Raptor. I like the Raptor a lot but I will get another Sig, they were excellent 1911's.

I think springfield is the way to go for $1k 1911. I picked up a NIB SS TRP for $1000 on GB. It was a great gun, but I traded it for a railed springfield operator in Black. Both are great guns, I just wanted a rail. You can't beat Springers CS either. They are super fast and pay for overnight shipping right to your door.
