match prizes?

so what are the prizes like for a typical monthly match? i can remember a year or two ago and i would hear about people winning pistols. i dont see much of that anymore. do they not give away guns anymore? cash? what do you win?

Local matches only come with bragging rights. You gotta shoot major matches like the High Plains Challenge or the ProAm. Double Tap is coming up in a couple weeks too.

Several of us win guns up in Missouri last weekend at the big Midwest 3 gun match.

at ITPSC outside of Duke (near you) we used to award a 1 troy ounce silver coin to the high overall winner and ribbons to the winners, 2nd, 3rd or each division. Silver got a little expensive so now we award ribbons only.

the 15 silver coins I won over the years started my little silver treasure cache :lol:

The Local matches will put on a classifier so that one may move up in the ranks.

I'm not aware of any match in shooting sports that has any sort of payback to even cover the cost of ammo. The prone matches at the OKC Gun Club have a payback, but I've won all of the matches in my class before and not come close to covering ammo. I've only looked at any sort of prize money as maybe haloing with gas $$$.

I'm only referring to local club matches. Who wants to pay a high enough entry fee to pay for a prize table with only entry fee cost?

The Texas Multigun Championship had nearly $200,000 of prizes on the table this year.

I shoot local matches for fun, practice and to shoot classifiers. If I ever do go to a bigger match and win a prize that is a bonus but, not the reason why I am shooting matches.

I'm with Mike. I shoot these matches for fun. Yeah, it costs money and would be fun to get some back, but I don't see it happening at the local level, just the big nationals.
Back in the Dirt bike days, we had several classes at the amature level, and at the end of the day it was the professional level.
The Pro's were in it for the money. Entry fees were twice to three times the amature level, and they got 75% pay back on winning. Promoters getting the balance.....just throwing this out.

Put on a money match at the end of the day.....20 bucks in the pot, and lets see who wins

I am talking about USPSA pistol matches, haven't shot a 3 gun match yet.

To expand on this subject just a little.

I compete in a weekly Sporting Clays league.
There is a cash payback...depending on how many shooters there are.
The most I've won is $75, not bad for a weekly match.

Monthly registered S/C club matches almost always have cash payback.
The more people that pay in, the more there is to payout.
Its broken out by class, so the top scores dont take home all the cash.

Now the bad part; entry fees are way higher than pistol matches.
$25 for a weekly league match. $50 or more for monthly club match.
Hundred$$ for a major. Not to mention side matches. Its not unusual to pay $500+
in total entry fees at a major. If you win a 'big' prize, they may also present you with some
nice tax forms to fill out too...

There is sometimes an unofficial 'Penalty Challenge' at major matches.
Everyone that signs up pays in a buck for every Mike and No Shoot they get.
Cleanest scorecard wins it all. Ties are broken by least number of Deltas.

That kind of takes the fun out of it.

It is like playing a round of golf, you play your game, you keep score and see how you did. I always liked to give trophies at my matches just so you had a record of how you did and I think most people like to have something to show for their work. I think Carlile is planning on giving trophies out at his match and USSA Steel Challenge still gives out plaques.If you want a prize table you have to pay a lot more entry fee.
