M&P Pro 9 or 40?

For those that have shot/shoot both calibers, which do you prefer for limited? Does the scoring difference have any substance in choosing the 40 over the 9?

I guess I could always do what Mike Cyrwus told me to do and that's always hit double alphas. But dogonit I'm just not there yet.lol.

Opinions and or reasons why you chose what you did would help me put my mind at ease.

Differences in recoil, mag cap, scoring, price etc etc

Do you reload? If so, you could load full house .40 S&W loads for major or load them light for minor and have recoil similar to 9mm. I'm certainly no expert here, just offering thoughts as I posed this caliber question myself a few months ago.

Andrsnsm, if I can find a 40 pro I will have both...calibers.lol.

Dustin, I do not reload right now, I've got a lee hand press, 45acp dies and about 400 or so casing but just haven't worked up the nerve to try it. I just gotta see it in person to really grasp it.

It was the other night when I got my uspsa membership in the mail and after reading through the rule book did I start thinking about caliber choices.

Last time I went to Big Boys they had one in .40 S&W. Maybe they still do

For uspsa only you should stick with the .40 for major scoring factor.
I got the 9pro myself because I want to focus mainly on 3-gun which doesn't usually matter for major/minor. When I do use it for uspsa, it helps me to focus more on slowing down to get my sights lined up to score alphas which always helps in any comp setting.

I hear ya. I love the m&p platform and I bought my m&p9 on a whim at sooner state, I never really considered uspsa until I was directed to boomershooter. Of course back then they had the pros in...my luck.
I rekon I better try and put up my 45acp dies for a set of 40s&w dies.

Still gotta build up that nerve to reload, I've had those dies for nearly 2 years.lol.

Don't let reloading scare you. Follow the recipes in the Lee modern reloading book and make sure each case has powder before you seat the bullet.

You'll lose a lot in scoring shooting 9mm in Limited. It's rare for anyone to consistently shoot 100% Alphas/Steel. Going fast is equivalent to dropping some points, and the fewer you drop the better, but you will give some up to finish faster. And it is a competition; no matter how you cut it, finishing higher will make you feel better than finishing lower. You'll spend more shooting .40S&W, let there be no doubt, but it will always be worth it.

I have a .40 pro and I bought a 9mm pro barrel for it. It isn't a fact the S&W puts out there but you can do this conversion with no issues. I change barrels and magazines and shoot 9mm with no problems at all.
