I love the feel of a good 1911 in my hand and have come to appreciate 2011's just as much. I have a Staccato C2 and it's been great! Staccato as a company has treated me fantastically when I've had a couple minor issues. The more I saw the Kimber Kds9c, the more intrigued that I became.
Apparently it's a failing in my personality. LOL
I researched it for months now. Going to all my local gun stores to check out their examples. Initially all the examples that I saw had in my opinion poor slide to frame fit. I was not going to drop that kind of coin on something that I felt was less than good. I'm glad that I waited.
I was not a fan of the silver version and I wanted to wait for the railed model to come out. Started looking more seriously and started shopping prices. I've been working my tush off this summer and thought that I deserved a nice new pistol. My wife pretty much agreed despite the fact that I had bought two other pistols this summer.
Every review on YouTube came out to be extremely positive. I do take those with the grain of salt, as most receive their model from Kimber versus purchasing it directly or getting it loaned from somebody else. I feel that lends itself to getting Cherry Picked versions. Firearms news recently had an article on it and it was also very positive.
I live in the panhandle of Idaho and Coeur d'Alene is the closest big city. Went to one of my favorite shops down there, Black Sheep, and saw a couple examples that were very nice. I figured it was time to make it happen. Unfortunately when comparing internet prices to black sheeps prices I was unable to buy from them. Their price was over $200 more. And they did not have the exact model that I wanted. They offer it in three various color schemes at this point in time. The silver or stainless version, a black version and a gray gunmetal version. The gray is what I chose.
Found a good price online at Smoky Mountain Guns and Ammo. It was $1259 with free 2 day shipping and my FFL transfer cost me $20. My FFL doesn't even open up the shipping box before you get there which is a nice thing. So he and I unboxed it together and we were both very impressed! The fit was the first thing I checked and it was a 9.5 out of 10 with a very minimal amount of movement between the slide and frame. Everything else is fantastic. The features are over the top, comes with a 15 & 18 rnd mag, it's made in America, no MIM parts, and the finish is typical for a Kimber in that it's excellent.
Part of the thing that sealed the deal for me was Kimber has a promotion going till I believe the end of November. You register the gun with them and they will send you to 15 round magazines as well as your choice of an extra set of grips. I chose the red and black high traction G10 grips and couldn't be happier. I got those parts within a week of placing my order. Excellent customer service.
