Introduction to Reloading Class

Hello all,

I have been asked by East Coast Gun Shop in Summerville (a sponsor on this forum) to instruct an Intro to Reloading Class on July 19th at 6pm. Just wanted to extend an invitation to any one thinking about learning to reload.

The cost of the 4 hr class will be $60, and the only thing you will need to bring is yourself. We will go through the components of ammunition, basic reloading equipment, reloading process, some hands on reloading practice with 38 specials and 308 winchesters, and more!

how does one become a NRA reloading instructor? I have been reloading since the Sixties. I presently reload for 16 calibers and cast and swage most of my bullets.

To become an NRA Certified Instructor you must first take the NRA's Basic Instructor Training. This tells you how to set up and run efficient courses, manage the money, generate publicity, etc... All the managerial type stuff. After that you must become certified for each discipline individually. This generally means finding a training counselor and taking an instructors level course. These courses develop instructor skills, knowledge, and attitude.

Because so few training counselors offer the basic metallic cartridge reloading course to instructors, they opened it up and now allow you to study the course material and take the test at home. This is one of very few courses that they allow this for.

I am a NRA Certified Instructor for Metallic Cartridge Reloading, however, this course on July 19th is not the NRA course. The NRA's course is 8 hours long, this class will only be 4 hours.

I wish I was going to be in town. that night. I can use all the help I can get to be a better,safer and more productive reloader. The certification process sounds interesting, as well.

The class was a big success. I know that I learned a lot as an instructor, and the people taking the class all seemed to really enjoy it as well. I'll take all of the comments and constructive criticism from the students into account and try to improve the course for the next time.

Speaking of the next time, East Coast Gun Shop and I have decided to put on another class. We had a bunch of people we had to turn away due to the limited seating. Good that someone is doing this. So many people start reloading and rely on internet commandos for answers to questions about reloading. From some of the answers I have seen, I'm sure someone has damaged a gun or a body part from following such drivel.

I was lucky, my much, much older brother who has been reloading for 20+ years was who I'd ask when I had questions.

Thanks for the encouragement. I too learned a lot from "internet commandos", but also with experience, seminars, etc... I got into teaching this stuff because I saw that there was a lack of solid starter information, and a lot of stuff online that is just flat wrong.

Please help this project out by passing it along.
