Oh Great Outdoor Oracle, thou art great in thy wisdom and overall greatness.

I humbly ask thee when we can expect the white bass to begin their spawning runs.

Thanks Dennis,

Kevin

I'm not the great oracle but I tend to be green and wrinkly from time to time lol I normally started when the polk salad was about 3-4" tall, trick around my place is finding polk salad! sucks living in town. The discharge area's tend to start a bit earlier. Later,

Kirk

The old timers say when the dogwoods and redbuds bloom, the sandbass run.

FYI, I was on Kaw today for three hours, and went to Ponca Lake for two. Didn't get a bite between two of us.

The old timers also said that when the wind is from the east, the bite is the least. When the wind is from the north, it spoils the sport. When the wind is from the west its the best, and from the south it blows the bait into their mouth.

Sometimes we need to listen to our old timers, and heed their advice.

Water temp on Kaw was 50 degrees. It needs to be in the upper 50's before they start moving into the creeks and coves to spawn.

Upper 50s F. Got it.

With the heavy rain last night, it might be good to fish some creek mouths on the Big Rivers as the increased flow will bring food down. Might get a big catfish.
I might hit Stillwater Creek at Ripley on Sunday. Today I will concentrate on our pond.

The cool weather forcast for next week will keep the crappie moving back to the deeper water. As soon as we get some inflow to the creeks and river from some warm rains, its going to be a little tough. IMHO the pre spawn season is the toughest time to catch crappie. You just don't know where they are at.

Saw a pic on fartbook that showed sandbass that were caught between Ark City and the north end of Kaw. He didn't reveal his spot.
