What barrel should I go with that won't break the bank? Currently Running a DPMS and it shoots plenty good enough for my use, pretty good actually, but the rifle is a heavy slug with it. Looking to swap it out for another 18" rifle gas of a slimmer persuasion. Suggestions?

I'd agree with Matt on this one. To quote 13 warriors, "grow stronger". My rifle wieghs in at 12 1/2 lbs, but is very well balanced. Mayeb you could get the Stag 3G barrel. It's a heavy fluted barrel.

Fluted Satern is 31 ounces. THIRTY-ONE OUNCES. I think it's their Liberty brand barrel. 31 ounces of liberty.

I blow about 4oz. of plastic and metal out of my nose everyday.

Yep! And I'd have that carbon fibre sleeved barrel that Horner runs if I had the 950 bones to blow on it too.

Edit: I had about 5 excuses on why my scores sucked, but on Team Bubber we are only allowed to use three. 1) Stage 1 I had no plan or walkthru and was completely lost. 2) Stage 5 Rifle zero was about 4" off. 3) I'm old, fat and blind...

What else do you have on this rifle? Could you swap out the handguard for a carbon fiber one? What comp are you using? I have the SJC Titan, which I love, but it is a bit heavy and weight on the tip of the barrel seems more noticable to me. Are there other components you could lighten up?

I could ditch the AFG and probably will. No comp yet or any go fast goodies. Running a 15" Troy Alpha rail. The upper I used to run had a Rolling Thunder on it. Felt like a brick tied to the end of the barrel, but it had the double fluted Satern barrel and carbon fibre hand guard and was pretty light. Optic is a Bushnell Elite 4200 1.25 x 4 in a Larue mount. I figure a lighter weight barrel and a LMOS setup will shave weight off of it noticeably.

I put JP LMOS stuff in my gun last weekend, and it felt a bit lighter. Or maybe it was just the side effect of the dream of having a real pro-elephant dung 3-Gun rifle coming true.

My Stag weighs 9.5 pounds right now and while it does get a bit heavy after mounting/dismounting, and targe transitions during dry fire, I don't notice the weight during an actual stage. I did notice some people going to shorter, lighter rifles on the 3GN show, but I assume it's because they know the stages are short bays where fast swings are more important than flatter trajectories.

It's all about the compromise, and what you want your gun to do. A lighter rifle will swing faster, but a heavier one will be steadier on target. I don't mind mine being heavy, but have had more than one RO mention how heavy it is if I hand them the rifle while staging another gun. I've had heavy rifles for so long, I don't even notice it.

If you want light weight the JP lite contour is where its at. If you want medium at a great price Nordic 18" is it.

6.75 pounds. and that is with a heavy ass stainless SJC comp.
On a bad day I pick this up and feel warm and happy all over.
Feels so good it shoots without sights and hits something every time.
