Comp-tac is the ONLY way to go. They build a great holster and don't make excuses for missed delivery times. Their productions times are on their website and they have NEVER taken longer. However, they have delivered early on numerous occasions.

Damn I didn't beat all of the Comp Tac fan boys:P I guess I gotta order a damn Comp Tac holster so I can see what you guys are talking about.

I use this new Black Ice Holster from Bladetech. You can also order then here at Brownell's. I would get the Tek Lok attachment for sure. It is slightly better than the original holster that I have as well in that you can rotate the grip forward sooner. This allows you a faster easier draw from a seated position such as at your desk or in your car.

I also change out the screws for these super duper handy tension adjustment knobs from 3 Gun Stuff. They allow you to adjust the tension that is holding your gun in on the fly so that you don't need a screw driver. I loosen mine way up for pistol competition and then tighten them way down for some stages in 3 gun where I have to run with my hot gun holstered. This would work great for the carry/competition situation. You want the gun locked in tight for carry but loose for fast gamey draws at the match.

I use these mag pouches for IDPA and 3 Gun. The same thing from Brownell's. You will want two of them for the heartland match and up to 4 or 5 of them for a USPSA match if you plan to shoot Production Division.

The Brownells stuff will ship to you today. If you order from Bladetech it may be a week or three as they usually build to order.

OK. That gives me a starting point. Thanks guys. Looks like comp tac is the way to go here.

Here is the equipment survey data that the USPSA does at the National Championship each year. I am not saying that Comp Tac isn't good because I have heard a lot of great things about their holsters but the data says you should check out both in person before ordering anything.

I am going to order a Comp Tac Holster and Mag Pouches just to see what they are all about.

The Ghost Holster and Rescomp are race holsters that just hold the gun by the trigger guard. They are used in Limited and L10 divisions a lot. The production data is the most telling here as those holsters are very much like the one you are asking about buying.

Mitch, Tony, Mike,

What model Comp Tac do you guys use?

I have a Comp-Tac slide holster for a 1911 and single mag pouches for an M&P. The workmanship is great, but you have to pull at a fairly specific angle to get your goodies out on both items. Otherwise you might very well pull your belt over your head.

I have a beltfeed and single mag pouches for a 1911 and those are both great.

I have this one for my 1911 Gov.

You're more than welcome to give it a go before you buy one.

I've got a Comp Tac paddle for production. I traded into the M&P and it came with it. No complaints; it's very nice. As for being a paddle, it is very solid. Great design.

Bladetech is also nice. I've got a SRB belt holster for my 2011. I would have ordered Comp Tac but the SRB was in stock and I wanted to shoot it the next weekend. :) I've heard great things about both companies' customer service!

Differences I've noticed...

- The Blade Tech seems to put a little more wear on the slide of the gun. It's not really a fair comparison because my M&P is cerakoted (which is holding up like a champ) and the STI is blued. Even so, I think it rubs a bit more.
- The Comp Tac holster has a more positive "click" sound
- The Comp Tac appearance is more of a flat black w/ a bit rougher texture on the outside.

I'll take some pics later this weekend and show you what I mean. Can't go wrong with either. Honestly I'd go with whatever you can get the quickest. :D

While we're on the subject, have you ordered one of those shotshell vest things, Jesse? I want to see one in action.

Hey Jesse,

I bought a holster for that 1911. It is a looper leather holster but is exactly like one of the bladetechs on their site. Thanks for the offer to loan me one.

Comp-tac is first rate gear. My favorite right now is the Ready-Tactical DOH holster. It's got the same quality construction as my comp-tac, and has the added drop/offset to make it a little more comfortable and accessible.

Blade tech stuff is good too, but I've never been impressed with the way they indent the trigger guard to hold the gun. I think Comp-tac is best in this regard, and Ready-Tactical is a close second.

I bought one of belt versions that is open ended so I can carry a 3in or 5in in the same holster. I think they called it a YAQUI, YAKI, ?. Something like that.
