How long, is too long?

No, I'm talking about hand guards...
I got a sweet deal on a Carbon Arms XL Carbon feather hand guard.
16" barrel with JPbreak
How close to the comp can you run a hand guard without any adverse effects?
(and yes I feel if the hand guard is too long, it necessitates building another upper)

I'm gonna say that if the handuaurd is long enough to put you in danger of getting your hand next to the comp... it's too long. lol. Ask Chambers about getting your hand near the comp.

I personally run a 12" hanguard on my 16" rifle with a JP break but I find that I don't extend my support arm out quite as far as some.

I'd like to hear Chambers' story...

Standing a massive 5'8" god gave me T-Rex arms, I'm not sure I could reach the comp.

Chambers got his hand out next to the comp on an SBR during a shoot house stage at USSA... He mentioned that it was very unpleasnant. lol...

I just don't extend my support arm as far as some, if I did a longer rifle and HG would be in order. I think this kind of thing is personal prefernce.

I'm about to give my 16" LOKI handguard on a 16" midlength barrel a try against my new Wheaton Arms titanium comp.

That looks awesome... Invest in some carbon scrubber lol.

I'm a fan of 14" free float rail/guards on 16" rifles. That being said, I rock the shorter, yet practical for myself, CASV-EL from Vltor.

I like the long (15.5") handguard. It gives you more real estate to prop your rifle when shooting off of barricades ,etc. Like antichrome said..put a thrust button or some sort of sling attachment and you have an index point for your finger, giving the same grip consistently

Here's my 15" Troy TRX-E on a 16" WOA barrel with a Battle Comp 1.0.

And here's me attempting to shoot it at a 3MR 3 Gun match.

Still have my finger. On barricades, if I don't put the rifle far enough through a port, the comp will blow chunks in my face. It was doing that here.

Other than that I really dig the long handguard.

Chambers... Damn! That was something else.

my question may have been poorly worded. However, Jesse may have answered it with the pic (BA rifle by the way)
I was more concerned with muzzle blast and the carbon fiber. Will it damage it, will a hand guard effect the comps performance. ECT

My hand guard comes to the peel washer not quite to the ports. Do you see any cause for concern?

If you start to see carbon build up on your hand guard, I'd think it's probably too long & could possibly be affecting the comps performance :D

Ooh yeah that's sexy .... um I mean. Nice rifle can I touch it ;)

I am kinda hoping the sideways blast from the comp actually starts to shred the end of my tube so it looks all jagged. Kinda like when bugs bunny sticks his finger in the end of elmer fudds shotgun and it blows up.

I agree. 16 on a 16 barrel is too close to the HG.

I just put a 15" on my 18" barrel, and a 13" on my .22 training rifle.

After throwing the CF hand guard on, it is about 1/2" before the 1st port on the comp. I think I'll stand by until Jesse gives his after action report.
