Looking for advice on making our range better. This pit was just dug out this year. I bought 4 Plates to start. Max shooting distance now is about 50-60 yds. So I don't think we can shoot rifle safely at plates currently.

If you have the right steel you can shoot it at 30 yards with a .223. I shoot my MGM Targets B/C Zone at 25-30 all the time. It hangs and has a hinge so it swings when you shoot it. It's AR500 steel as well. AR500 is the only thing you want to shoot rifle at.

My MGM knock down plates get shot at 50-60 regularly too as well as my auto poppers.

Check out Range Master Rowdy targets too. They are a forum sponsor and have some good prices on some cool stuff.

Just had mine built a few weeks ago.

i need a covering built for shade, grass to counter erosion on the berm and astro turf for the shooting areas.
I made paper stands with PVC, read cheap, and PVC cardboard attached to furring strips. I use a spray adhesive to put up whatever target I am using and just later over old ones with new ones. Easy. Water barrels great for using a tablets, or setting up shooting from cover positions for drills.

Not sure if these are ideas you were looking for....

Ok, I'm officaly jelious. I would love to have some land out in the country to build a couple of shooting bays.

I was watching Guntucky with my wife and she says "why don't you buy some land a little further out of town and charge people to shoot ridiculous stuff like this?" I said I was just thinking the same thing. I think I found my retirement income. I'm gonna start working in my sleeveless shirt collection now though.

We are blessed to have purchased now a total of 220 ac of hunting property now. We have an 80 ac lease connected, so 300 total, and are looking to try and get the lease connected to the south of us this year which is about 600. We just finished a nice cabin. We use it for hunting and just getting out of the city. Yes, I very lucky. So much that I am going up there tomorrow to try and kill this.

This is something my brother and I have dreaming of for years. The thought was instead of driving to a range with restrictive Ro's invest in our own range. Of course the time and energy I have spent over the last 9 months to finally realize that dream and get rounds down range destroyed me shooting anything for that same time not to mention the amount of ammo I could have purchased. :)

We got an rv so the families could come out and we could stay weekends. That meant 600 ft road, utilities well work etc to make it all work.

All in all, it is a dream come true, but it is by no means easy.

Of course with my sense of ratcheting elephant dung up in my world, now the rv looks small and 40x50 buildi g makes more sense.
The wife wants a cabin....

A few class's a month and it can all be a tax write off for now.

My point, it sounded a lot easier dreaming about it. ;)

Yes, this is a problem. We started with nothing but trees 6 years ago. Paid to have power run, dug well. Used a trailer to hunt out of for 5 years. Let me be clear on this part. This past year my DAD paid for me to have this cabin built on our land. Me and my dad own the land but I had no money for a structure. My Mom wanted one for a getaway from New Orleans for many reasons including Hurricanes. I had an architect buddy draw me up some plans; we tweaked it and I laid it out exactly how I wanted it. It was much easier spending my dads money than mine. Here is what we ended up with. I am happy with the outcome, but it took me a year to get it the way I wanted it, with lots if issues in between.

We have come along way, we had no food plots now we have maybe 10 ac worth of food plots. First couple of years hard to kill anything now one son killed a nice buck 2 years back and the other son killed 3 deer last year. It has been a lot of work managing this land but I do really enjoy it. Now I need to find and cultivate the right spot for this 3Gun Course.

I guess for now I'll just have to keep going up to Canton Lake shooting at the free range up there and spending the weekends in my 5x7 nylon cabin. :49:

That's a fantastic looking cabin! Food plots certainly help attract game. My food plots are about 10 acres so far, but I'm going to expand this year with some experimental plantings. Our hunting/ fishing forum has a deer hunting contest every year, with some great prizes to the winner. Be sure an enter!

Sure will! We are mostly interested in good family fun, eating and football. We do take some deer every year mostly does, no real monster bucks typically.
