Does anyone use a high capacity 1911 that isn't a 2011, and is in 9mm or .40S&W? And if so, what do you think of it? It seems like Para-Ordnance products have a hit/miss reputation, but not many other choices are available; Rock Island has one and Springfield has one. It would be nice not to have to spend $2000 (more or less) on a handgun I'm interested in using.

I have never seen a Para work for an entire match. Seriously.

You can get a used STI for around $1,400.

You can find a 2011 in 9 or 40 for less that $2,000. It's the mag cost that adds up fast since they're $100+ per mag.

There are plenty of people shooting Glock 35's in limited though. I'd bet dollars to donuts you could get a limited 35 or 22 setup for under a grand.
