we were out shooting today and my wife's m&p slide didn't go all the way forward and is now stuck. there's one in the chamber but the slide won't go forward to engage but won't come back to eject. i hate to take it to a gunsmith unless i have to since she goes to the women's 3gun training in 2 weeks.

thanks
Bret

Factory ammo? Sounds like the round isn't sized correctly. I say rack the hell out of it. My glock locked up like that once I racked it again my tailgate hard and it ejected the stuck round

Probably a cartridge that's bulged.
Be very careful, pointing in a safe direction, grip the slide over the top with your left hand and slam into the grip with the right hand to knock it loose.
If need be, do this outside pointing toward the ground or at the range pointed into the berm.

thank you for the info! took it outside in a safe direction and held by slide and a firm hard bump into the grip got it open....was able to dislodge the shell and will get it cleaned up and ready for her.

didn't see any bulge but the rim had some burrs? was just a little leary about getting too aggressive with it at the range.luckily it was end of session.

actually i am not sure due to a friend had factory loads and we had factory and reloads.things got a little mixed up sharing guns.first time i have encountered that problem.

You need to segregate the factory vs reloads and make sure the gun is reliable with factory rounds before her class.

I'm betting the reloads were the problem. Not sure if you have heard of the Glock Bulge, but it will cause the issues your seeing if reloads aren't properly prepared in the sizing process.

I use a Redding Glock DrX and the Lee FCD

I started getting alot of the little bulged cases in 9mm with my dillon square deal. I changed presses and put a lee undersized decapping an sizing die I got from midway in position one and I've never had the problem again. 19.99 was worth not thinking about it!

she will be using factory loads at the class and this is the first issue we've had, so my guess is that may have been a reload?

Had a rash of the same issue last year with my M&P's. Couple members suggested filing down a bit on my Dillon die to get carbine sizing ring closer to shell plate, and then making certain die adjusted all the way down to the plate. Thousands of rounds later, not a single reoccurrence. Great advice.
