Well, I guess it's now safe to say the retail supply of XM855/SS109 aka "Penetrator" aka "Green Tip" steel-tip 5.56x45 ammo is for all intents and purposes gone. The announcement of a potential ban was released on Friday. This stack at PSA got gone between noon and 3 pm'ish Monday (at a not-so-extraordinary price, I might add.)

I guess we'll be seeing that for sale on the free market. Those cans were going for close to $400 on Gunbroker over the weekend.

BATFE To Ban Common AR-15 Ammo
// NRA-ILA Site Updates

In a move clearly intended by the Obama Administration to suppress the acquisition, ownership and use of AR-15s and other .223 caliber general purpose rifles, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives unexpectedly announced today that it intends to ban commonplace M855 ball ammunition as ?armor piercing ammunition.? The decision continues Obama?s use of his executive authority to impose gun control restrictions and bypass Congress.

BETAF incrementalism... slippery slope and whatnot. Proposal for classifying/ restricting xm855 as 'Armor Piercing' was delivered hours before a 3-day Federal holiday weekend. :twisted:
Be interesting to see what happens in the morning when the congresscritters offices re-open for bidness. :shock:

BTW-- that same pallet was priced at $169.99 on Sunday, and xm193/420 strippers was $159.99... and here we go.

i wonder who has all the big 12,000 rd drums of that stuff still sitting around.

i think its the start of trying to starve our ARs.

TGstripe--- It's not YOU wondering 'where it is' that is concerning, it's the BAD GUYS wondering 'where it is' that is concerning...

Thank you. I could have sworn the price was not that high last week. Good for PSA they jacked up the price before some ambitious entrepeneur grabbed it all up.

So, when it is officially banned, will it be illegal to sell period, even on the aftermarket (Armslist, Gunbroker, etc.)? I saw some 5.7 black tip on GB, but it had been disassembled into components (maybe just for shipping reasons).

Aftershock... I'm seeing the M193 supply dwindling and prices rising now. It's not banned (yet), but the overall supply of 5.56 has been cut.

This site is set to take action, "SaveM855"

Why would xm193 be bought up? it like the whole damn .22 lr thing....

When the time comes that you need it you can take it off the guys you shot with the little bit of left-overs you hang onto.

The neat thing is that you can get all kinds of other neat stuff from them, too! Radios, body armor, et al.
