Was wondering if any of ya'll have shot up at the Ft. Supply WMA range? I'm going to be up there for work for a few days and have been itching to get the big guns out to stretch their legs.

Info is kind of sporadic and few and far between with what's what up in that area.

Thanks!

It's allegedly on the south end of the Fort Supply WMA just NW of Woodward. GoogleEarth doesn't appear all to promising but from what I can gather it looks like it's here:

36.4515543, -99.5809888

As far as I can tell, the only info I have on it is that it was there at one time and I guess it requires a valid hunting license to partake in shooting festivities.

It's probably still there. The wildlife department doesn't have a lot of resources to maintain these and some of them look like trash dumps, roads grow up some, etc. but they are still open as far as I know. The trashyness doesn't seem as bad up NW as elsewhere. I haven't shot at Ft. Supply but I have shot at Optima and it's not too terribly bad, they had some nice gang grafitti tho. They have another range at Beaver River just NW of where you are talking about, IRRC it's gate is right on HWY64. From what I've seen, about 200 yards is all they go.

From what I hear, the wildlife ranges are prime spots to get shot or robbed. I always hear stories of shady happenings and unsafe people there.

Then that is the prime spot to set up and start to reduce our tax burden. If a prairie dog is proving to be no fun anymore, crack heads could be a new game.

Yeah, there is a WMA range somewhere over on the eastern side of Okla where a WWII vet got robbed of his guns and beat up.

Local shooters took up donations and replaced his guns. I don't believe they ever caught the crooks.

There is a 100 yard range on the south side of Ft. Supply lake, it's pretty rustic, don't expect much. The one we use most is on the north side of the dam. It's 200 yard and more civilized (although still a bit trashy as people like to take things to shoot and leave them). You do need a hunting license to shoot there, and don't worry about your safety, it's cool.

Thanks for all the info and anecdotal insight fellas. I'd rather not have to test my potential gunfighting skills while looking for a fun day at the range so I may suppress any urges to shoot this week. I suppose the money that was to be used for ammo should go into a join OKCGC fund so I can have an awesome range to call home.
