All the First Federal Banks in the Grand Strand area of South Carolina, which includes Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach and Little River area have now been posted against concealed carry. What a stupid corporate decision to alienate 10,000 potential customers in Horry County not to mention the 200,000 CWP holders statewide. I've banked with them for over 20 years. No more, I am in the process of moving my accounts to BB&T. The manager there tells me that they have no intention of posting.

I'm in the process of moving my accounts to TD bank; not to mention FirstFederal doesn't have SWIFT so international wires have to be done through other banks. TD is a Canadian bank, I'd rather go there. They also print the debit-card the same day you open, and have a change-counter in West Ashley.

i asked our BB&T manager why they didnt have a sign and he said he didnt mind his regular customers packin. concealed of course.

That's fantastic! Which BB&T branch was that? I'll have to look into them a bit more then..

I don't know (or care) if my bank has any signs.

They do, however, have a sally port with remote-controlled entry, cameras and a metal detector inside the sally port.

I would imagine that deters robbery more than any sign on a window.

westgate in spartanburg.

i just asked the manager for a minute, said i didnt see a sign and i have a permit but i dont have a gun and he went into his position.

what made me want to ask was, there was a woman next to me at a teller with great big gobs of money to deposit. she was rattling off numbers, $7000 in this one (moneybag) and $1600 in this one. hell i didnt want to be there. if someone knew she did that regularly they could hit her in or at the bank where nobody is supposed to have a gun.

I was under the impression it is unlawful to carry in a federal institution anyway. How were you able to carry in a bank in the first place? Please correct if wrong.

What "federal institution" are you referring to?

A privately owned company, with the name of "federal", does not mean they are a government entity.

if you are asking me then read the post again.

or

"i asked the manager told him

i didnt see a sign

i have a permit

i dont have a gun".

Avtomate....it is a bank. No guns in banks. Right. I meant financial institution. It was late when I got home from the Greenville show.

In SC you can carry a concealed handgun into a bank lawfully. If the bank doesn't want you to then they have to put up a "proper" sign. Even then, the only penalty is "Trespassing", and that's only if you refuse to leave the premises (the identical charge if you don't have a weapon and don't leave someone else's property when told).

NC's CHP prohibits carry in banks. Maybe that's what you're thinking of.

SC is good-to-go.

I work in Charlotte, and this is correct. Not that you need me to rubber stamp it. But I just did. I feel about as useful as a congressman right now.

In both CWP CLASSES ( my wife took one and I went for a refresher), we were told not tot carry in a bank. Did they change it recently or were the cwp guys wrong

SLED requirements to be a CWP instructor seem to be lax.

Were the two courses taught by the same people? You and your wife received incorrect information and you should publicly name the responsible persons for this substandard "training" they charged you for and affirmed to the State Law Enforcement Division as being worth a damn.

No. They were different people at different years as we'll.

What about open carry? If you are licensed to manufacture firearms and ammo, are you allowed to open carry off premise of work. Like the grocery store, gas station, banks (haha), etc?

I believe the answer is no but with previous posts on laws, it almost sounded like we could.

As a general rule, unless you are a police officer, open carry is prohibited to "normal people" in South Carolina.

There are, like in all things, obscure, nuanced exceptions to this law, however. Like, you can't open carry in a zoo unless it's a Blood Moon and there is a left-handed Chupacabra singing showtunes, etc.
