Over 3000 American Military lost their lives in the jungles while the diplomats in Paris decided on what the shape of the table they were going to sit at for peace negotiations.

That discussion lasted for months over the table while Americans kept dying in the field. Another three years of "diplomacy" would follow with Americans being used for cannon fodder as bargaining chips.
