It actually had several problems One of which was the failure to eject which is lessened with large primed rounds they seem to eject more reliably. where as the small primed rounds dont. we tried two different mags with the same results. It would also have failure to feed with both ammo's. I placed a spent shell in the chamber and closed the slide on it and slowly drew the slide back and the shell fell out of the extractor before encountering the ejector. The ejector looked short but that may of just been me being Ive not got much experience with .45 1911's.

Also there is no tearing on the brass at all, some small crushing when the slide feeds the next round into it

So I think its the extractor. maybe the ejector. how long should the ejector be/ and how easy is it to fix the extractor? This gun has a ramped frame can this be polished, and can the chamber be polished for more reliable feeding.

The cartridge should be captured by the extractor until ejection, and should not be falling out of it.

With the slide off of the gun, you should be able to put a casing behind the extractor without it falling out.

Thanks for moving this. It just drops the case out. So we know that is a problem.

Now can the frame feed ramp be polished?

worry about the real issue, which probably isnt the feed ramp, or its lack of polish. After your issue is resolved, then prophylactic measures can be done, like polishing.

Just a question While waiting on the repair of the extractor. Wasn't considering it the first option.

So do you think that an extractor problem can cause failurse to feed?

Ok so here's the deal. He disassembled the pistol after this trip to clean it. pushed the extractor into place and it poped when checked it appeared straighter then it was before. He then took the gun out to the range and the only problems were with small primer federal ammo. The extractor now holds the shell as it should. This was a used gun when purchased. I wonder it the extractor came out of place during firing or if it was a reassembly error. Either way it runs now.

Kimber has firing pin stop issues which cause extractor clocking. I know I am late to the party :sarcastichand:

What this means is the stop is loose fitted, normally to min spec .465 or below and round bumps the extractor causing it to turn and the hook not to catch the round lip. Some will add extractor tension to compensate, which in turn causes 12 o clock ejection and a slower feeding cycle and 3 point jams.
