Here is a pic of a target holder that I built this weekend. I used 2x4's, 2x2's, metal stakes and thin strips of wood (I forget the name). I hope to take it out soon.

I wanted something fairly light, cheap and easy to replace if it takes a hit. This one can slide up to 26" wide. It can go wider if I use a longer length of wood.

The uprights don't seem as sturdy as I would like them. If I make another pair, I think I will replace the 2x2's with 2x4's to support the uprights better.

Same here - I welded together scrap 2" square steel tubing, and made sockets for 2x4s for the verticals. Little shaky until you staple cardboard to the wood to put the targets on; then right as rain. Until some asshat shooting a shotgun in the bay next to me decided to take out my stand.

I had one before made of PVC, but it took one hit and was done for. I think the wood will stand up a little better, and I'm more likely to have leftover 2x4 scrap than PVC.
