Hey ya'll. I shoot production minor and I practice usually at a distance of like 10-20 yards. I have shot two matches at Best of the West in Liberty Hill, TX where every single stage had a majority of targets at 25+ yards. For those of you who have shot big regionals and nationals: what distances are typical? Those 25+ yard targets are eating my lunch.

I just want to practice the right way for what I will probably see once I shoot a big match.

Thanks

Thats not normal for most matches. 95% of your shots are normally 3-15yds. That really doesnt change for bigger matches, the shots might be harder due to hardcover or no shoots. That being said, get good at shooting 25yd shots and everything else will be easy B)

Yeah I certainly want to work 25 yard shots and I will. The ones I was getting owned by today were at like 35-40 at times. I think that because they have big open bays at that range they feel like they have to use the entire area. We had GM's pulling some deltas and mikes out there today pretty consistently. I felt like I needed a scope and a dope chart taped to my arm.

25 yards in the alpha zone is no different then 7 yards headshot. Use that front sight and you'll be okay. If you really want to practice, get a B27 target, shoot 6 rounds in 10'aeconds all in the X and you'll be able to shoot with anyone at any distance.

Shoot groups off a rest on a uspsa target at 25yds. Pay attention to your sight picture and trigger control (reset). You will start to get used to what it should feel and look like to fire an alpha at that distance.

It depends on the match and range. Each match andatch director has it's own feel to it. Double Tap is short and fast because of the small bays. Texas limited is A mix of everything. We shot a standards stage out to 50 yards last year. If you want to win you gotta learn your pistol from 0-50 in my opinion. 25 yard head shots or steel plates are a skill u gotta strive to have in your bag.
