Crappie season has began

Made it out to Kaw yesterday afternoon. Used the trolling motor to get away from shore, when the locator started beeping.
I could see a cedar tree right on a break line where it went from 12' to 20', covered in fish. Put on a jig and couldn't get a bite, so switched to minnows, and the fun began. Caught thirty or so, but only kept 10. None real big, but keepers.

nice. I think Crappie fishing is my favorite.......non stop excitement.
Of course there's alot to be said for throwing a line out & sitting back drinking beer too.

That was the only bad part of the day. They were biting so fast, I couldn't have a beer.

Went out to Kaw again and brought 12 home. Biggest was 1 3/4 lbs. that fish has the lead on the Kaw lake crappie contest. It won't last long I suspect.

My son went to some runoff pond downtown by the river and caught 42 crappie. Down off Robinson.

Went back out to Kaw this afternoon. My buddy, and his 5 year old caught over 50. The little guy was pretty good at catching his own.

I brought home 34. Total weight of my string was 26.1 pounds. We caught every one of them in an area smaller than the bed of a pickup truck.
Amazing day to say the least.
