Just a heads up, application deadline for hunting big game in Colorado is next Tuesday, April 3rd. If you are planning on hunting mule deer or limited elk, gotta have your stuff postmarked (or done online http://wildlife.stat...llicensing.aspx) by midnight the 3rd.

I just completed mine for a cow elk. Cow numbers are high and it's $200 cheaper than a bull tag, so it doesn't sting as bad. And sending in now makes the expenses on the rest trip more manageable.

If you've never filled out the application and need help, send me a PM and I can walk you through it. Trying to get the right hunt codes can be a bear.

Here's a couple pics from last year's elk camp...

Last year was the best year we've had in 25 years according to the old timers in our group. That's out in SW Colorado, I've hunted there since 99. Last year was my first time back in several years, so I hope it didn't spoil me.

We had 18 tags in camp, took 5 cows, 3 bulls and 3 mule bucks. We had a couple more down, one small bull was hit hard and ran over the mountain. Another hunter came up on him and had him dressed before our guys got there. My buddy said that since he did all the work he could keep him, and saved his tag for another. We had a cow hit hard, tracked her for about three miles until she went onto private land. The landowner wouldn't let us retrieve her, he's a jerk. And another huge bull got hit hard, but we lost the track in the deep snow and all of the other tracks from the herd.

Great year anyway! Have a good time in NM.

We are really spoiled on our hunt. It on the migration route of the elk.. Its on a private ranch with cow tags. We saw herds of 400 elk moving through the area. We have been 12 years in the same place, and have a 90% success.

Thanks Burk! I think I'd wear it anyway out there, never know when a Californian might start slinging lead, since they don't get to practice at home.

Oh yea...Go Pokes!
