Changing rear sight blade on adjustable sights?

Whats the trick? I bought a square notch target blade for the rear sight on my Ruger MKIII. I got the V-notch out no problem but I cant seem to get the new one back in. I know there is a little notch you have to line up but I cant keep the spring over enough for it to drop in. What am I doing wrong?
