Carrygun Match Guidelines

Safety

1) Safety is everyone’s job. If you see something unsafe, SAY SOMETHING !
2) This is a COLD RANGE. No guns are loaded prior to the “make ready” command.
3) Do not unholster your gun unless on the line & after told to “make ready” by the RO. (Range Officer) IE; your gun stays holstered unless you’re on the line making ready or in the safe area.
4) Follow all range commands of the RO, as they are given. (Don’t rush, don’t anticipate!)
5) The “safe” area is the classroom, at the southeast corner of the building thru the double doors.
You may “gun-up” there, while facing the EAST wall. (away from the double doors)
6) Do NOT handle any ammunition in the safe area. (Load magazines anywhere BUT the safe area)
7) All movement and reloads must be done with the trigger finger outside the guard.
8 ) Don’t break the 180 with the muzzle. (Muzzle & Finger warnings may be given, but are not required)
9) If you have an accidental discharge, STOP! Face downrange and do what the RO tells you.
10) Do not try to outsmart the stage. Due to the limitations of an indoor range, all shots must hit the backstop for safety. Walls, ceiling and floor are not the backstop!
11) It is required that the shooter engage targets only from the specified positions.
12) All prop walls are considered to go all the way to the floor. Unless otherwise specifically outlined for the stage, if you can see a target under a wall, do not shoot it. If you’re unsure, ask!
13) All walls and targets are considered impenetrable. Do not intentionally shoot thru a target, prop or wall hoping to hit another target.
14) When told, “unload & show clear,” remove your magazine, remove the chambered round,
point the gun at the backstop and pull the trigger. If there is an AD, it’s a Match DQ

DISREGARDING ANY OF THE ABOVE GUIDELINES WILL RESULT IN A MATCH DQ

If you are DQ’ed for a safety violation, there is no refund and there is no whining.

Protocols

1) You are expected to stay with your squad throughout the match.
2) You are expected to help tape, pick up brass and/or reset the stage for the next shooter.
3) If you are the “on deck” (next) shooter, you do not need to help reset the stage.
4) If you’re “in the hole” (3rd up) pick up the shooter’s brass. If you’re 4th or 5th or greater, help tape/reset.
5) If you are reported as a “slug” (not helping at all) then you forfeit your chance at the drawing.
6) There is no shooting straight thru the match, unless you have a great reason.
7) After the match is over, you are expected to help sweep, take down the props, clean up and restore the range to how it was before the match.
8 ) If you leave early, you forfeit your chance at winning a $50 Heartland Gift Certificate.

Must be present to win!

I've had a couple people ask me if there is a match March 27th........

NO, that is the 4th Sunday of March.

(I am holding an "Essential Handgun Skills" class, however.....and still have a couple spots left....)

I look forward to seeing you fine folks at the match NEXT Sunday, April 3rd.

This match will have LOW LIGHT and ACCURACY skills tested.....(among other things)

I also have this match designed to be quick to set up (should be shooting on both sides no later than 6:20) and it'll be quick to shoot.

Let me know on the 4 squad deal. I'm now getting mixed reviews, so let's hammer it out.

I have only attended 1 of these so far, so my opinon should not matter a whole lot, but if you can make it go a little smoother 4 stages should be fine. Last weekend it there ended up being 3 squads waiting to shoot the 4th stage. I think it was just because the score cards got mixed up at some point. Also if you decide on 4 squads, IMO it would be better to have squads 1&2 shoot one stage each, and then 3&4 shoot 1 stage each, the swap out again. That way 2 squads are not waiting for the 1st 2 squads to shoot 2 stages

But either way I had alot of fun, and will be there no matter what you decide

If squads 1 and 2 shoot one stage then swap out with squads 3 and 4, that's going to cause a whole lotta problems, as there will be a lot of in and out and back then out again.

The idea was to allow enough time for the non-shooting squads to go get a bite to eat, or at least have some down time on the couches in the store. It also requires more people to help reset the stage, instead of the same 5 folks doing it for 20+ shooters and 15+ let them.

The only downfall was the second 1/2 of the match. The squads in question didn't know where to go or even who their squad consisted of. This can be remedied with simple designations at the beginning.

It is simpler to run only 2 squads, as that ensures there are enough experienced people to run the timer, etc, so that's a big point in favor of the 2 squad system. The downside is, no break for a food run.

1 thing I think would help is to have everyone put a piece of tape on their shirts with the squad nmber on it. Because I did forget what squad I was suppose to be on

I will be there with the wife! She wants to shoot my PT92 so I gesss I will be limited to embarrassing myself with a revolver this time!

Pre-Apology for the reload times yall.

2 squads, no food, everyone helping. Obviously, 15 people don't need to tape 6 or 7 targets but everyone needs to do their part at some point in the match.
