Canik 55 TP-9 (Looks like a Walther clone)

Lookin for a first handgun and I have a pretty restricted budget (around 300). Found the Canik 55 TP-9 9mm, seems to look like a Walther clone. Read a couple reviews and write ups and they all seem to consider it equal to the Walther. Just wantec to see if anyone has come across one or shot one that can give me a little reassurance before I spend the cash.

Haven't handled that particular model, never shot any of the Caniks. Academy in greenville(and probably easley and sptg.) carries the Tristar C-100 (Canik), a CZ75B clone; you might take a look there to get an idea of Caniks' fit/finish.
