i have read a little bit about this, can someone catch me up to speed?? where does everything stand??

I read the publication from BATFE, but didn't see anything that specifically calls out a recommendation of banning the importation of certain shotguns. It reads like a study, like an informative essay. I may be wrong, but this issue seems like a lower-grade, lower-IQ (if possible) Obamascare type thing. "Hurry up and buy everything so it can be grandfathered in!"

ATF doesn't really think about practical shotgunning as a "sporting purpose." It appears that forever and until the end of time "sporting purpose" means a duck gun to them. If they recognised 3-gun and practical shotgunning as sports it may lead to importation of saigas and the like in a more "practical" configuration (pistol grips etc.).

I haven't read anything that leads me to believe they would start to consider magazine fed shotguns as destructive devices or anything. If there is anything that ATF or anyone credible has said which shows that intent please post it up.
