I just wanted to share some video from my favorite match format. It's called ACTS or American Confederation of Tactical Shooters. The premise is that it's "more tactical" than other shooting disciplines - all while not taking themselves too seriously. Use of cover is mandated, and sometimes it's very physical. This one was one of the toughest that I've done, and i've attended this match for the last 2 1/2 years. It's definitely shown me that I have to work on cardio, as evidenced in Stage 2 where I was gassed. (this was our final stage)

Anyway, for your viewing pleasure:

That "weird stuff" is designed to get you breathing heavy and your heart rate up so that you get a real idea how you shoot when being stressed. I think you'd be surprised how difficult it *can* be. FWIW, Kelly Neal (who is a really great shooter) smokes us all when it's less physical and more technical, the gap closes when it becomes physical. I'm thankful that he shows up and competes with us, I learn something every time I watch him shoot a stage.

There is nothing wrong with running around even if it's a lot as long as you get to shoot a lot too. I love running especially if I'm shooting while doing it.

The running I see in the video's would certainly put a lot of folks out of contention, or at a severe disadvantage to one that is in reasonable physical shape.

I got tired from just watching the stage description videos, but that looks like it would be a good fun way to get in some exercise.

That's very true. I am not in very good shape at all and because of that I'm kinda proud that I managed 2nd in open class (behind Kelly Neal) and 8th overall out of 46 as well as the oldest competitor in the top 20 (42).

Anyway, I just thought you guys would like to see a different kind of competition vs the normal 3 Gun stuff. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for sharing! This match looks like it would be great training for MIL types. I would have killed to run that stuff as a young private.

Pima Pistol Club which is on the north side of Tucson, AZ. PM me if you're ever in the area or Phoenix on the third saturday of the month.

Hey thank you,,,travel without firearms, didn't know you could do that.... I can't believe the ACTS hasn't taken off around here..

Looks like it's time to start a local chapter. There are currently three chapters - two in Michigan and one in Arizona. The boys in Michigan have a slightly different spin on it than we do here, but that's more a function of the guys that design the stages. This is the official website, but we (AZ) don't use it a whole lot - www.actshooters.com
