Ok so a few days ago I posted about my DPMS double firing after installing a set of KNS pins. Here is an update. Finally made it out to talk to one on the firearm instructors I know at the local PD. After ribbing me about all the "Aftermarket" parts he started looking it over. He didn't really see anything wrong until I showed him that with the trigger pulled and the hammer pulled back into the dis-connector I could pull the hammer free with some steady force. He thought I was crazy until we got one of their Colt LE model ARs out and tried the same thing. Sure enough no matter how hard I pulled the hammer wouldn't let go. So with a little closer inspection we noticed where the dis-connector engages the hammer it was just barely making contact.
Since the issue hadn't shown up until I installed the pins we swapped the original pins back in to see if it made any difference. Well the engagement improved slightly over what there was with the KNS pins. However I was still able to force the hammer up off of the dis-connector.
So Im guessing I need to replace the hammer and dis-connector, which is what he recommended to do. What are your thoughts on this? I bought the rifle new in 2008 and I know it has less than 1000 rounds fired.
Should I try and get DPMS to send me new parts for free? If I buy DPMS parts from Midway Im looking at about $30. Buy a different mfg trigger components or just pony up the money and get a RRA 2 stage trigger? I'm not wanting to dump a lot of money for a trigger since this is just a plinking/shoot for fun gun but an improvement over what it is now would be nice.
