I am getting ready to build a new AR and have been watching a few videos on YouTube and read what I can about the process. I came across a couple videos and a thread on another forum that talked about using blue loctite on the barrel extension. Supposedly it helps tighten up the barrel similar to glass bedding an action. Seems a little odd to me so I thought I would bring it here to see what yall think.

Hey thanks Benny. I knew the whole loctite thing sounded hinky and was hoping you or Mike would chime in on this. In know just enough about gunsmithing you know I don't know a damn thing about it.

You can find barrels with an oversized extension that is an interference fit (press fit).

Shim stock is cheapish though.

I don't think I've ever seen an AR barrel without the extension already installed.
I thought the same thing when I first read it. He means loctite around the outside of the extension when inserting it into the upper receiver.
