Dad and I have settled on an A3 rifle configuration. Dad wants to plink at the range with good accuracy. Now me, I'm not going to let an opportunity go to waste, and I like, or at least used to like, National Match Service Rifle. Since USPSA is my main game, I see any NM shooting happening at a local 100 yard reduced range. But, there are a few that still shoot 600 yards. So, I'm going to say, 98% 100 yard matches and 2% out to 600.

The question then, is there a good compromise in barrel/chamber choice, or should I just be happy with a good 20" HBAR in 5.56?

I think your biggest problem will be the long wait time from any quality barrel company. I have a barrel on order at Blackhole Weaponry and the wait time is at least three months.
