This morning when I was going through airport security on my way to multigun nationals, I ran into a speed bump. My shoes registered in the little xray machine for explosives. After checking 5 different times on three machines they discovered that yes it was explosives. I'm a genius. I wore my shoes that I wear to gun matches. After like ten minutes and pulling the USPSA card out, they finally let me go.

You know, I was going to comment on that too but I thought it was best to just leave it alone.

Had a similar thing happen last winter in Wichita, as I went through the line they swabbed my shoes and the fun started. TSAholes started acting like I was taliban and I was escorted by two big "no-necks" to a private area for questioning. After I was quizzed by to clowns that could not make a decision, I finally got to talk to a supervisor. Up to this point I have no idea why I'm about to miss my plane and am starting to get an attitude. He starts with the same line of queations as the other guys and looks at my personal effects in the tray where my wallet was lying open and my ID and NRA life membership card were showing. He sees the NRA card and changes his line of questions about how much I shoot, if I hunt and finally if I reloaded my own ammo. He tells me that explosive residue was detected on my shoes and that's what all the fuss was about. I told him that before I left for the airport I had walked through my reloading room in the same shoes that I had on and he said that was what caused the problem.
I make sure that I wear clean shoes now...

I was in Boston a couple of months ago and couldn't sleep, so I went to the airport early, real early. American didn't have any seats on the earlier flights so I had a little over four hours until my flight left. As I'm coming up to the TSA checkpoint and start pulling out my ticket and ID, I decide to have "fun" and used my SDA permit as my government issued photo ID. When I was questioned about what kind of license I was using, I responded with "That's my certificate of freedom card." After the supervisor was called over, I explained that in Free America, lawful citizens carried guns, sometimes concealed. Yep, I was "Customer 1000". I almost missed my plane.

Going back to Boston in a couple of weeks and I'm looking for one of those full auto T-Shirts that read "Into each rain, a little life must fall" or the one with the MAC-10 on it that says "Big Mac Attack".

Sad part is...the TSA has never stopped or caught any of the folks who have nearly gotten away with a plot yet.

At least they found residue on your shoes....that's about as glowing as an endorsement I've heard yet.

If you want the royal treatment... fly out and back the same day... with no luggage. I went to Denver and back on a business trip...with some RON gear (remain-over-night---eg: toothbrush and clean skivvies, fresh shirt) in my breifcase. That got some special handling ... at Detroit and Denver.

Don... play the game... fly in flip flops and gym shorts....I swear looking like a middle aged midwesterner get you "profiled" everytime...
