I am planning on putting a low profile gas block and new fore end on my DPMS AR-15. It has a 16" barrel and carbine length gas system. I am considering either a mid length or rifle length fore end. Are there any advantages or disadvantages to either? If it is purely cosmetic, any pictures illustrating the two are greatly appreciated.

I like a 15 inch hand gaurd. Plenty of room to reach out with your support hand, and increased sight radius if you have iron sights.

Plus it looks better.

Plus it allows you to rest your rifle on stuff you might not be able to "reach" with a short handguard. Also getting your bipod further out adds stability when shooting long range.

Oh....where the pic of that idiot who put his handguard over the brake again........

I'd go with a 12-13" on a 16" barrel. I've tried 15" hand guard on a 16" barrel and it just added extra weight at the muzzle. I never grab the gun that far out.

PM me. I'll have 12% off discount codes for Optics Planet tomorrow too.

Well that didn't end well. Any idea what handguard length/barrel length combination that is?

I'm guessing it was a 10-11" barrel with a 12" handguard.

I was thinking 14.5" barrel on 16" hand guard. Either way, dumb with a muzzle brake. Only cool with a suppressor.
