A lot has happened since my last post. Husky Ranch and our home burned to the ground 5/29. No one was hurt but there is nothing left of it but the front wall. We are still working through the insurance process and staying with family while that plays out. In total, not counting the guns, I lost north of $100,000 in ammo, reloading supplies/equipment and other gun accessories (ie. cases, safes, other odds and ends). That number is still growing as we go through our inventory.
Over the course of the last 3-1/2 months, I have slowly been rebuilding my gun collection. Since I am at the inlaws, I put a couple safes in. No more gun vault... at least until I rebuild. I will rebuild. Probably in the spring. Until then, my father-in-law carved me out some space and I bought a couple modest 51 gun safes.
A few guns survived. You all probably recognize the 5 stainless/chrome in the top row. My Metro hard chrome 45 was on my hip. The Springfield Garrison in 9mm, Kimber Rapide in 9mm, Springfield Loaded in 45 and Kimber Stainless Target Long Slide in 45 were all at little brothers. In the process of rebuilding the collection, I bought 2 RIA Ultras in 45 (top row), 3 RIA Standards in 45 (bottom left) and 4 RIA Standards in 9mm. I upgraded all the RIAs to G10 grips. Made a conscious effort to color code them by caliber/model so I took the magwell ext and grips off the Ultras and put different grips on them. Need to order some main spring housings to get the magwell extensions back.
I added a few more this evening... Ordered them anyway... Some stock pics below.
Kimber Custom LW in 9mm
Kimber Stainless Target in 9mm
Mauser CA compliant in .22LR (This one should pass the melting point law in IL). I only bought this for the kids but I am sure I will shoot the crap out of it.
I have bought lots of other toys (plenty of lever guns and revolvers) I will be happy to share at a later time. Even completely rebuild my son's Henry 2020Trump Silver that was obliterated in the fire. For now, I am just sharing the 1911 progress.
I bought quite a few RIAs as you can tell. I got some really good deals on them and I have always appreciated RIA's reliability. Rock solid SHTF guns in my book, so I stocked up while the gittin was good.
