Well... I am now the owner of an 80% lower. And, a friend of mine has the jig and a drill press....and, now it is a finished lower....

Does anyone know anything about legalities of shooting a finished 80% lower...

Do I have to put numbers on it and register it somehow before I can legally use it... I just don't know. but, it is kind of coolto have ...I guess...

i know, i know. now you shoot it.

i dont think you are supposed to take it out of state and you cant sell it or cant sell it for a year.

Andy, av8tor, knows all about those rules. AKA cochran squared.

I have never heard of any prohibition on interstate movement. Only with NFA items is there restriction.

A serial number, along with name, city and state of manufacturer, is required before sale. There is no time limit.

If you manufacture the 80% chunk of aluminum into a firearm (AR-15 lower receiver) then you are under no obligation to fill out an ATF Form 1 "Application to Make and Register a Firearm"

The same is true if you manufacture alcohol. The law doesn't really kick in until you start distribution of the product.

The only problem I've heard of is if you want to have it anodized, most of those shops will not touch it without a serial number and a name. I guess they're worried about logging it into their books.
So you're left with finishing it at home with Cerakote or DuraCoat etc.
Good to hear from you and congrats on the build, hope all is well in your neck of the woods.

I had several gun smiths refuse to cut the barrel of my shotgun below 18" despite me having ATF paperwork allowing it.
