22 rimfire clip autoloader for self-defense ?

I will be real specific --- This is for a situation when the Bad Guys launch a domestic terror assault in my mid-sized city. My local police are too busy (and maybe nationalized along with the Guard) to help me personally.

I would be taking my bug-out bag and walking about a half mile through apartment residences, over a lawn and some big trees --- to get to a couple of friends with their car--- as we Get-The-Hell out of town. I might have to fire "from the hip" without aiming AND ALSO take cover for scoped shooting.

As to the gun : CURRENT PRODUCTION ONLY / Rimfire only / Clip load only / Stock wood or laminate or synthetic / barrel length as available / VERY DEPENDABLE CYCLING / Takes 1X or 2X scope (tip-off mounts NOT necessary) / Budget for rifle up to around $600.00 / Extra clips individually sold at up to $50.00 each / Sling swivels optional -- I can install them later ' Does not have to be pretty.

My height is 5 feet 8 inches and I am a typical sort-of-scrawny 67 year old senior citizen --- so this firearm should not weigh a ton . . . Thanks in advance ! ! !

Ruger 10/22 takedown fits the bill. Cheap too, save the extra $ for optics and ammo.

****** O.P. here . . . Thanks for a quick reply, and I already had that among possible choices. By the way, for others who also parachute in with suggestions, this info is relevant: I ALREADY WILL HAVE A HI-CAP MAG .40 AND A CENTERFIRE REVOLVER IN MY BACKPACK.

Yes, I know that rimfire ballistics are low in stopping power, but I would intend to make the 10 minute dash to my friend's house WITHOUT A FIREFIGHT. The 22 rifle would be to suppress any opposition that I am unlucky enough to encounter, even despite my attempt to move from my place to my nearby destination.

I have a Henry Survival rifle for my camping/survival/bug out bag. It breaks down into three pieces that fit into the stock. It is very accurate and it will take dovetail scope mounts.

Are you going to ditch this gun when you get to the car? 22LR may be a bad long term SHTF choice... as scarce as it is now I can only imagine. And you can't reload. Consider a carbine in the same caliber as your handgun.

Rimfire is not a good choice for SD in any situation. More duds/misfires per round than most centerfire calibers. I've had new Eley and Aguila misfire too, not just the cheapo bricks. This is a good-solid-dent in the rim, still didn't fire dud. Second strike didn't light it either. Minor annoyance with my 10/22 plinking at cans. Pisses me off with Eley match and my target pistol. Think it might be deadly in a SD/HD scenario... and not to the bad guy.

This is completely disregarding the ballistics issue, but this is why we have pistol caliber carbines and 5.7 and heck, .223 rifles.

.22 is a good SHTF gun for long term survival - most anything smaller than a deer that you'd want to eat can be killed with a well placed shot. Ever-present canadian geese included.

Also, no rimfire that I know of takes clips, either en-bloc or stripper. I know I'm being pedantic but you're on a gun forum forchrissakes.
