2011 Pricing

Ill not dwell on this but only here, this once; IT IS WRONG, SO VERY WRONG, TO LOOK AT A 2011 BUILT BY ONE GUY AND COMPARE IT TO ANOTHER BUILDER. CUSTOM PISTOLS ARE NOT COMMODITIES, IE YOU CANT MELT EM DOWN LIKE GOLD AND SAY, THIS ONES WORTH XXXX DOLLARS, SO THIS ONE MUST BE ALSO. IF SOMEONE TELLS ME THAT MY GUN (OR WORK) PRICES ARE TOO HIGH AND THEY MENTION ANOTHER BUILDER AND COMPARE THEM TO ME, I TELL THEM TO POUND SAND. Personally, Im getting away from building custom pistols to order because I have a problem charging clients what i should; damn right those guns are expensive.

-nothing against you, metropolis, I wasnt basing my response on your post.

Its like comparing a hyundai or kia SUV to a subaru or toyota. sure they look cool, but they are just turdballs rolled in elephant dung paper.
I totally understand where you're coming from. Look in the classifieds at my $4,000 custom guitar. Same deal.

My comments were more along the lines of "I don't know what I'm doing and therefore don't know what I'm looking at", not "it's not worth it because the base model from somebody else is cheaper". It's like me saying I can't tell why a Harley FatBoy costs twice as much as a Sportster. Since I don't know the difference, I can't justify buying the FatBoy, as a used Sportster would make me perfectly happy. Saying this doesn't belittle a FatBoy.

This debate rages on, and so it shall go forever.

If a gun has a bunch of blended parts, an expensive finish, one off slide cuts, whatever. That adds shop time, time is money to a smith. When I say $3800 is a bit much for me to spend what I mean is the following: I don't require a gun to be 100% aesthetically perfect, seeing the gap between the frame and grip safety is okay, I don't even need fancy slide cuts, I do need what someone once called a hammer, something that can have the piss shot out of it and be completely reliable.

That picture may represent almost $2000 in parts and finish. Then you add in the 30 plus hours of shop time, (may be as much as 50+). That's where the money goes. As a builder builds a reputation his guns can and should get more expensive. His abilities get better and his workload increases to a point where he is booked for a year plus. Plus consider that he gets more email and phone calls than can be reasonably addressed in a day. This all adds up to guns that cost a bunch, but they are leaps and bounds ahead of off the shelf stuff. Feed them good ammo and keep up with springs they will be nice and tight until the barrel is shot out.

Just picked it up. It definitely goes "click". That's as far as I have gotten.

Tolerant? Very.
Helpful to newcomers? Very.
Great gunsmith ? HELL YES! Made my single shot CZ return to being a Semi auto like it was designed to be!
Charges what the work is worth ? YES.
Over charges ? NO.

Thanks for the help Mike!

Slide cuts are cool though. :) Or are these called ports? They're sharp whatever you call them. Kinda puts my silly little Eagle to shame now doesn't it. Goodness.
