1X vs 1.25X

Question on the true 1X magnification optics vs a 1.25X. How much of a difference will the 0.25X make? Reading on the various boards it seems that everyone wants a true zero magnification. I have had a 1-4X optic on backorder for a couple of weeks and since this is the final piece to my AR puzzle I got over anxious and called to cancel my order and they offered me a good deal on a similar optic that is 1.25X-4X.
Did I screw up?

I ended up ordering the Leupold VX-R with the Illuminated Circle Dot Reticle.
