Would you rather have a 1911 in 9mm or .45 Pros and Con?

Agee 100% Dennis. BTW, did you get some bad twisters up your way? Looked like Hollister and a few other towns might have been hit bad. ' Also I forgot to add in the above diatribe that I bought some LOC black cerakote 1911 solid brass grips, scribed some bobtail lines, cut that area off and...

Would you rather have a 1911 in 9mm or .45 Pros and Con?

Peirre........I've had the best overall success with Tripp magazines for the .45 AND do not discount ACT mags. I use those for my S&W 3" .45 and they are 7 rounders. They have a really nice follower design which I like over any other magazine follower. I've had issues with Tripp 9mm mags, talked...

Would you rather have a 1911 in 9mm or .45 Pros and Con?

If we are strictly talking 1911, and not a 2011, I'm with the .45 over 9mm all day long. Given the single mag capacity of both, even if one chooses a longer mag, I'll load 8 .45's over 8, 9 or 10 9mm's. I do have several Tisas models.....the Stingray in 9mm and Tank Commander and the Raider in...

    Officer 1911 in 9mm

The stock rear site is .265 high and the bottom of the dovetail front to back is .445. I would check with Heinie and see if their site has that similar front to back dimension, or is close. Their rear site is .305 high and coupled with Dawson's site, there might be a slight POI issue, but at...

    Officer 1911 in 9mm

chili.........Mine still has the stock sights. Never found the need to change them out. I'm pretty sure I checked with Dawson Precision years ago about getting some for it but let that pass. The link below will PROBABLY get you a fiber front and I would call Dawson Monday am to see if they have...

    What 1911 brands to avoid?

Bul Armory does make some nice guns. Several guys on YouTube I've seen use them in competition and rave about them. I will say that I have spent more than several weeks shooting over 750 rounds through my 9mm Stingray and used several mags that I purchased from Tisas, the black 10 round...

    What 1911 brands to avoid?

Joe.....I did check out the Sigs a good while back but found them to be of lesser quality than the S&W external extractor models. With Sigs, I'm at P series shooter and do have a couple of German Mastershop P226/X5 models. My P226S is the most accurate handgun I own. I did just see that Sig is...

    What 1911 brands to avoid?

My LGS has plenty of 1911's and lots of Colts. Over the last year or so, the Colts have the WORST triggers and thumb safeties I have ever checked. The thumb safeties must have been file on and fitted by some monkey on a bench that was out of bananas, and they are asking $1500 for the Commander...

Is Tisas a good 1911 option?

If your rear sight has NOVAK on it, it's most likely a genuine part. If not, it's probably an "unauthorized" copy of a NOVAK. IMO, BIG DEAL! If the sights were installed with equal distances in the dovetail from left and from the right, and the front fiber optic is centered the same, that gun...

Is Tisas a good 1911 option?

terdog......If you're talking about the Yukon, that looks like a Novak cut sight. Old GI sights were and are 65x.330 which are on my Tank Commander. Is your front sight in a dovetail or staked in? Here's some info for you.................... https://www.novaksights.com/Content.aspx?PAGE="Sights...

Is Tisas a good 1911 option?

Couldn't agree more with Mike. When I saw Hilton Yam's review of the new SA TRP's, I closed the book on SA. For $2,000 list, you get a bunch of MIM parts and a plastic trigger shoe. ............I'm off to shoot my Tisas Raider and Tank Commander which didn't come with MIM crap.

Is Tisas a good 1911 option?

terdog......As mentioned earlier, I have the Tank Commander and the Raider and both are tight as hell. If you keep it, that frame to slide slop can be taken out by a decent gunsmith rather quickly IF they know what they are doing. Here's a video of Mark Novak taking the slop out of a Argentine...

Is Tisas a good 1911 option?

Nice deal on the Glocks. If you go 9mm on the Raider, you might have to pretend it has recoil. That will be one smooth pistol as it weighs 36 oz. I'm not a Glock fanatic but did pick up a new Glock 17L last month. Have to say it's a tack driver with that 6 inch barrel and almost zero recoil...

Is Tisas a good 1911 option?

The Raider is a beast and recoil is reduced due to the rail added for a light, etc. I put in on par with my Springfield Full Rail Operator.....just as heavy, just as accurate, and just about $1,000 or more cheaper. Hard to beat that deal plus SA FR Operators are a limited run gun from SA. Go get...
