Give them your SSN as the computer will hit on similar names and date of birth. You might want to contact them and apply for the Unique Pin Number (ask your gun dealer for the contact info). The UPIN block on the form 4473 is in lieu of SSN and immediately takes the NCIC computer check to your info.

Maybe it is time to re-examine your EDC gear. If it is too slow for IDPA then it will probably get you killed on the street. You don't have to be a gamer to learn what does and does not work.
I carry a full size 1911 in a Milt Sparks Summer Special IWB holster. It is fairly easy to conceal and I am comfortable carrying it. The Glock is too thick and bulky and just does not carry well for me. The M&P seems to be thin enough to be a good alternative but I have not tried to carry one...
