    I have done the unthinkable.

As soon as I read the title in my email list, before I read the email, I thought to myself "oh, ****, he bought a Glock.". Am I alone with that thought?

Is Tisas a good 1911 option?

I don't like the way the link is designed on the Rock Island. It just looks like it will break, and is not to original spec design. I don't trust it, although I haven't shot one enough to know if it will live or not to substantiate that opinion. I just know if it isn't to original design it...

    Houston, Texas, Favorite Firearms Establishments

Yeah, CF is a must-see. Another shop further out from there, on I-10 west of Beltway 8, is Full Armor, which often has some nice 1911's. Also, Carters Country on I-10 due north of CF, which is more sporting goods, but nice. Near Carters is Goode Co. BBQ which is one of the best Houston has...

    Springfield Armory Plastic mainspring housings

Mike A1: I'm a mechanical engineer, born and educated in Detroit auto business. Retired now from work on heavy turbomachinery. You have some correct observations, I believe. Haven't kept up with SAE since I left Detroit.

Don't see many of either left on the roads in Texas.

Since it didn't sell well, I guess that's what the market thought about the idea. Leaky manifolds are expensive to fix.

    Springfield Armory Plastic mainspring housings

WOW that's enlightening. But back to 1911's: These are not Glocks. Picture going to WWI & WWII with plastic parts in your service handgun. We might have lost the wars! Yes the M&P Sigs use polymer frames today, but it's not the same nylon as in the MSH.

    Springfield Armory Plastic mainspring housings

Yeah my smithy has seen them fail. When the nylon gets old it gets dry and brittle. Delrin holds up a little better.

    Anyone into tattoos??

I wonder if anyone with tatts ever stops to think that many, many people find tatts to be offensive (disgusting) to look at, and wish you "wearers" would cover them up in public. This is why many companies outlaw the display of them in an office (professional) setting with dress standards. You...

    Springfield Armory Plastic mainspring housings

I haven't taken apart the new SA Ronin to see yet, but does it use the nylon plastic mainspring housing like the SA 1911's and the lower end Kimber 1911's? If they do I'm a no buy.

    Jigs needed?

Hey fellas, if anyone else has some 1911 jigs used they might want to sell, let me know! Joel 3:10 -- beat your plows into swords. Jefferson 10:4 -- beat your plows into swords or plow for those that did.

    Jigs needed?

That was part of the initial question. I don't know what folks use.
