    The Challis System

I did just find the photo of the cutaway. Go to Challis.com then click on "who we are" arrow to the right a couple times.

    The Challis System

Every time I order more normally they include a cutaway photo I mentioned. I have to admit the first set I tried I did it wrong also! Guarantee you will love them, but shipping can get expensive ordering one set at a time (that could be mailed for the cost of a first class stamp). So I'd suggest...

Wilson Combat 100S Checkered Frontstrap (stainless) review

While they fit on some pistols and might be functional, they really look like a cheap added-on piece. I even saw a guy shooting with a set and one side popped out, a potential laceration issue. If you need front traction but don't want the expense of checkering, I'd recommend a piece of...

    The Challis System

The first thing I do with any 1911 is changing to the entire Challis bushing setup. Especially with nice wood or ivories, they really protect the grips and the screws never loosen. I just checked their website for the cutaway photo how their combo works, but can't find it. But there is one very...

    Which maker?

I couldn't vote because after discovering Guncrafter Industries my Wilsons went away and I have no experience with Nighthawk, although I hear good things about them.

    1911 Size reliability

I've learned the hard way that I want nothing shorter than a 4.25" bushing barrel. There is just too much happening simultaneously for a shorty to handle consistently. Plus barrel length has little to do with concealability, so why lose velocity and longer sight plane? As to weight I'm over...

best material for a 1911 barrel ? Stainless vs Carbon steel

Back in my Kimber days I experienced exterior barrel rust. I assumed they were stainless. Wrong. They were in the white, no protection at all. I'll never understand why. Luckily Robar was local, they charged $30 to do their wonderful Np3 on a barrel. Problem solved.

Winchester announces price increase on ammo & components.

If things ever get back to normal I hope everyone remembers who took advantage of the shortage and became gougers themselves. Manufacturing costs have not increased.

Buyer's guide for first 1911s Priced Below $1000

Plus often it costs you more once you start customizing a cheap gun than if you just bought a mid-level to begin with. Nobody right now can beat Dan Wesson for the best gun at it's price point.

Buyer's guide for first 1911s Priced Below $1000

Great topic. We all started somewhere. But for me there were no "cheap" guns with the goodies of today. We basically had Colt and Springfield, then as you could afford it you upgraded the same gun. It's a whole new world since Kimber rocked the 1911 market in 1996. It's been a full blown race...
