Last week, when I was at my buddy's place and we were messing with my FPC 9mm carbine, he asked me if Smith was going to bring them out in 10mm and .45. I didn't know at that time, that Smith was going to introduce one this very day.
It's the usual Smith folding carbine, based loosely on the M&P pistols, with 3 15 round magazines standard. They're a danged neat and handly little carbine, at least in 9mm, I have no idea how the 10mm will be, honestly.
Since the FPCs are straight blowback, they might have a little recoil, but it won't be too bad. As luck would have it, I have a SIG Romeo MSR red dot sight here, looking for a home, if I decide to bring the FPC10 home tomorrow (a local shop is already advertising them for $586 or thereabouts). I'm planning a run over there tomorrow to find out what I think about 'em. My 9mm is a heckuva lot of fun to fool with, and shoots reasonably well.

No FPCs today, they'd already sold out! And had 22 more "spoken for"! They have 55 more coming in the pipeline, but don't know when they'll come in.

Apparently, there was an awful lot of pent-up demand for them.

No matter, I don't "need" one, anyway. I just have a spare red dot sight that needs something to sit on, lol. I'll let the initial demand calm down a bit, and see if I still think I need/want one, later.

Personally, I prefer the Ruger LC 10mm. I'd rather be able to fire with the stock folded than have it fold at the breech. I've also heard that the cheek piece "bites" sometimes. Glock mags are a plus too. The forward charging handle piques my interest.

I recently reached out to CMMG to see about getting a longer barrel for my BANSHEE. They make 1 for the 40SW, but not the 10???? They claim that (direct quote) that "there is no ballistic advantage to a longer barrel." WTF?

My guess is for pistol caliber carbines/ rifles, that use faster burning powders in their ammo, having a longer barrel ( beyond ? length)
may not provide any increase in velocity over a shorter barrel length..but may actually cause lower velocity,
as peak pressure would begin dropping before bullet left the ( longer) barrel.

There would be the advantage of a having a longer sight radius, over a shorter barrel, but that's not a "ballistic advantage"

Your correct. Exactly the reason the M-16A1 was shortened from 20" to the now standard 16". The bullet has reached maximum velocity in 16". Any further length reduces muzzle velocity.
The old "longer barrel means more velocity" came from the black powder days when that was a true statement.

That doesn't seem to pan out. Every review i've seen of the RUGER LC 10MM, using chronographs, has shown a great gain in FPS.

Im sure there's a point of no/little gain. But I really don't think that 16" is past that point.

Agreed that there are a few variables.

I'm glad that I got the Ruger instead of the Smith & wesson. The Smith has too much plastic for my taste. Didn't like the two piece handguard pic rail.

After 150 rounds I'm still digging my Ruger lc10. It has shot everything I fed it. I put a cheap red dot on and the flip up sights do a nice job of co-witnessing with it. The one downside that I was able to fix was the cheek rest had a habit of irritating your face because of a seam from the mold. I took it off and used some thousand grit sandpaper and now it's perfect.
I just installed a tanker style comp and we'll test it as soon as work and weather allow. The gun does not have a high level of recoil for sure, it's just with the blowback design you do get a little kick that is definitely not irritating. My hope is that the comp will mitigate some of that.

The 1st mags. The SGM and a Glock 15 rnder.
