It's the finish flaking off. Probably because I used a Kydex holster before I knew that steel guns deserved leather.I can't tell from the picture what the white looking stuff is. Is it the finish flaking off, I can't tell? I have had very good results using Case Paste for cleaning and polishing pretty much any metal. I polish all of the feed ramps on my pistols with it and have great results.
You're very welcome. Yeah, Kydex holsters are made for guns that you don't care about what happens to the finish. It's the finish flaking off. Probably because I used a Kydex holster before I knew that steel guns deserved leather.
Thank you for your response.
What is the gun finished with? It's the finish flaking off.
Your finish is called KimPro II.I read all the ads and all the documents in the box (I bought it new) the only thing I can find about the slide finish is "matte black".
I will take your advice and continue to carry it and chalk up the marks as "character"Your finish is called KimPro II.
There are a lot of shooters who have had this problem with the KimPro II coating. Do a search about KimPro II not a lot but some info.
If it was my working pistol I would use it as is, & send it back to Ruger for a new coat when I retired her as a safe queen.
To be honest, I have no safe queens, all my girls get ridden & put up clean & lubed. Just remember beauty is only skin deep.
How does she run? That's most important2 me.
It's not discoloration.Does anyone know how to fix the discoloration on my beautiful Kimber Hero Custom II?

Yes I worded my original post badly. You are correct. In my last post I gave the price Kimber quoted to refinish the slide and I would consider the wear as "character". A poor attempt at humor. I agree the finish is junk. But the pistol runs great and I will continue to carry it.It's not discoloration.
It's the finish worn off the slide. It's normal. Will happen with kydex or leather. The kimber finish is about as poor as the finish was on Para Ordnance
