    Colt Wiley Capp Commander

Had a Colt Wiley Clapp LW Commander in 45 ACP and loved it. Sold it and still regret it... Also a Commander lover and only have Commander-size 1911s. Lately though I've been carrying and shooting a Wilson Combat LW 9mm Commander. It's a great combination of a good carry weight (~30 oz...

    9mm 1911 mags

I use Wilson Combats exclusively in my 9mm 1911s so my first hand recommendation is WC... Make sure you don't purchase second hand -- the current gen 2 WC 9mm mags are the ones to have. The gen 1s have some problems. Just an FYI -- WC will swap out any gen 1 9mm WC mags for new gen 2 mags --...

    Gunsmithing Tools

The EZE-LAPs are the best for a bunch of things. Glad I found them as well...

    Gunsmithing Tools

A couple of tools in addition to the other great posts: Idiot Scratch Prevention Tool: OK -- I know if your careful... But on my higher end 1911s, it just gives me peace of mind and they're cheap! Have them stashed on my bench and gun bags... Idiot Scratch Prevention Tool 10-8 Armorers...

    Gunsmithing Tools

Great investment... I recently picked up a FixItSticks set for scope mounts, etc. for the exact same reason -- I over tighten as well. I can't tell you how many screws, bolts, etc. I've broken off over the years. No more!!

    The Challis System

Great thread... I use the Challis bushing and screw o-rings whether I’ve installed the Challis bushings or not. It works great for nine or G10 grips. Then I replace bushings if necessary. no matter what, the Challis system is the best! My two recent WC Commanders came with the system.

    Which maker?

I vote WC. Tough one - I have a NHC and I have a relative that has an early NHC as well and both are first class. My EDC with a bunch of rounds through it is my favorite WC - a LW Commander Hackathorn Special in 9mm. I just like the classic looks of the WC pistols. As someone else said - I...

    Insane prices

As many have already said - I will never do business with CTD. They tried to sell P-Mags after Sandyhook for $99, gouging on ammo during the past 10 years of shortages, etc. I prefer to do the “Notify When Back In Stock” from retailers that have fair pricing. Try SuperVel - they did me right...

What's your most enjoyable to shoot?

Lately it's been 9mm 1911s... Specifically my Wilson Combat Hackathorn Special 9mm Lightweight Commander...

    Carry magazines? What kind?

Wilson Combat 47Ds with Tripp followers in 45 ACP - hate the plastic followers. Only get 7 rounds with the Tripp followers and I’m ok with that. Wilson Combat ETM or Vickers magazines in 9mm. But be sure they are the latest version! Wilson will swap out the older 9mm mags for tree is you call...

    Shuemann Barrel Question........Please look

Shuemann has always been hard to get on the phone... All his barrels are ok with +P. Just make sure your pistol is sprung properly for +P. Assuming it is based on what little is known. I had a Tripp built 2011 with a Shuemann barrel and it was good with 30 Super +P and 9x23... I did have...

Anybody running a Wilson competition fiber front sight?

I run a Dawson on my S&W M&P9 Pro for USPSA Production for several years. I preferred the smaller FO (0.040) when I was younger, but have gone back to the factory S&W front sight with a 0.060 FO now because I see it better - old guy disease! . I did break 2 Dawson front sights during matches...

    The Best Training Facility

I have to agree with Pandaz3 on Front Sight. I know a lot of people love to hate on them, but for a new or newer shooter -- they do a great job -- just ignore the marketing! I have been going there off and on for about 10 years taking mainly handgun courses but shotgun as well. Just last...

    What are you lusting after?

I truly don't "need" anything -- we've been truly blessed... But since you asked... WC Hackathorn Special Lightweight 9mm... More for a lightweight than for the Hackathorn Special -- but it has virtually all the features I like on a Commander-length 1911. Ordered it a few months ago and...
