Recently I bought a Dan Wesson A2 parkerized. After taking it out a few times a few changes come to mind. A trigger job with existing parts. Serrate or checker the front strap and a set of night sights. I'm thinking Harrison wide u notch with a Trijicon HD front sight. Maybe get the feed ramp...

Me too. It was a great shooter but the front sight kept throwing itself down range. Got tired of sending it back to Colt so I traded it for a Sig 229.

I have many of the books on your list. I got my first copy of Small Arms of the World when I was 11 or 12, when I left for the Army it was held together with tape. The Art of the Rifle by Jeff Cooper is another good choice.
