Why is the number of preppers growing so rapidly? Prior to the pandemic, somewhere around 2 or 3 percent of all Americans were preppers, but now that figure has shot up to about 10 percent.

If you hear the term "survivalist" and it conjures images of militants and conspiracy theorists— residing on the fringes and on compounds, armed to the teeth.
You would be right, a "survivalist has a very different mindset than the modern Prepper. They ( The survivalist ) have understood over a long time, the real truth.

There are NO Rules!

1. I have stockpiled food and water to survive a potential major disaster.

2. I have stockpiled weapons to survive a potential major disaster.

3. I have stockpiled equipment and materials to survive a potential major disaster.

4. I regularly think through in my mind ways to survive a potential major disaster.

5. I have thought through who would be in my survival group.

6. I know where I could get more supplies to survive a potential major disaster.

7. I have a plan I could put into operation to survive a potential major disaster.

8. I have attended US Military survival courses to help me get through a potential major disaster.

Excellent reply sir. I do not like the term prepper at all. I prefer saying I am prepared, have been aware of the need for years, only just started practicing it in the last couple years though. I've had ammo stocked since the early 90's. Have been called not right since then too. I've known crap was coming for years, glad I finally did something about it. Stay safe all. It's not coming....It's here, and has been for sometime, I just had to admit it and get off my duff, and so something about it.

One only has to look to Washington DC to understand why more people are prepping now.
Diesel fuel shortages looming. Railroad strike possible and the list goes on.
If that happens it will be difficult to transport goods across our country and shortages of food will develop.
We don't call ourselves preppers but we have gathered up canned food and other necessities in large quantities. We live in an isolated heavily wooded area with lots of wild game around and a rive not too far that's full of fish, so protein is not an issue. I've lived off the land for extended periods in the past. It can be done again.

Live on an island.
Have unlimited sea food.
Have unlimited water, have to desalinate it, but.
Have a rocket stove.
Have 20 feet of copper tubing.
Have 9 months+ of canned food.

I don't call myself a prepper.
I'm just ready.

I've got this figured out.
Find some uninhabited slip of sand somewhere off the US coast that nobody claims.
Put up a shack, give it a name, and send a message to the Government that you occupy said land and are declaring war on the US with an invasion of the mainland imminent because you feel threatened and are afraid of a US invasion on your slip of sand.
Paddle a little dingy close to the shore, throw some fireworks on the beach and retreat to the island to surrender unconditionally.
The government will see how needy and depressed with your situation you are that drove you to go to war and offer reparations along with an aid package to build the desalination plant, offer assistance to build an offshore casino to employ the occupants of the island and offer welfare to anyone that doesn't want to work while laying on the pristine beach.
Yep, I think that will do it.

Yep!
Working on it. I think I will be there by, say, July 4th 2023, already in play.
Welcome to the New Florida Keys. We are going to secede from the Union.

If I can talk Desantis into it, maybe the whole State of Florida.
Go Big or Go Home, Right!

When the government controls what you can eat, you can't resist. Even good people, when faced with a lack of food will usually make whatever choices they have that keeps them alive, not what they want to do.

Unfortunately you are correct. I hope I never get there. I have a feeling the powers that be, are going to try to do it though. I do not want the bastards to win. Our Pastor reminded us again, that we will see incredibly horrid things before the return of Jesus. He said we may be called on to die for our beliefs. I pray that if I'm alive during those times, my faith is strong enough not to not to deny it, and that I go home a saved man. As I've said before, life here is short, and fleeting. Eternity is forever. We get to chose where we spend it. Chose wisely folks. Again, I am honored to be among such a wonderful group of folks. I feel truly blessed.

Damn! Yeah, you probably OK. You know we gonna poach right?
Oh, we have that issue already. Some have lost their firearms, some have lost their right to hunt, and so on after we catch them, and I'm sure some have been successful poaching when we don't' catch them, but there is a big coalition of landowners in our area that monitor their properties while out feeding cattle, farming and so on.
The last two guys I caught on me shooting some quail after walking past a no trespassing sign cost them $750 each before the Game Warden cut them loose. Big game can have fines into the thousands of dollars with restitution to the state to replace that animal can run into the tens of thousands if it's a trophy whitetail.

If it is a question of starving, the nature of the encounters change to it being a shoot out. Or the poachers can become raiders and they are going after you all, your houses, and livestock. You guys would have to set up a militia and game wardens will likely be doing some of the poaching.

Lets hope it never gets to that point.

I recall an older man many years ago telling us that he was hunting in Wyoming during the depression. He killed an elk with his 30-30 and as he went up to claim it, a group of hunters that he said were from California fired a shot in the Air; said it was theirs. Levered another round in the chamber and looked at them. They said you would not shoot someone over an elk. He made it clear that he would. Explained to us that his family badly needed that meat.
