Civilian Aids Officers in Peach House RV Park Shootings

Well, I watched the whole video, and commend the citizen for getting involved.
I've seen this reported on a couple of forums, and the distance was never mentioned in the video posted, but others have posted different ranges that the citizen shot from.
165 yards is nothing for a sillouette shooter, and there is no mention of what gun was used in the posted video.
Anybody have some concrete info?

The man said in the first video posted that he had a side view of the guy and he was probably 165 yards away. Then he said I hope this magnum bullet holds out to distance.

I only watched the embedded video. There was more?

Has the distance been verified? Some folks aren't real good at judging distance without an electronic range finder.

I was only refering to the top video wher the citizen refered to the difference, and the second video where the cop said the citizen was shooting a handgun.

I know the majority of people have problems with juding range by eye sight, but that being said I have worked with an older gentlemen that could guess distances withing 10 or 15 yards of the actual distance(I measured with gps) it could of been a fluke but I doubt it.

Maybe it wasn't 165 yards, but it had to be far for him to think it was 165, maybe it was only 120 yds. Either way it was some good shooting. Heck it could have been 200 yds and he misjudged.

Good point. If its a well sighted in a 158g .357 at 1250 fps doesn't drop 3" till about 119 yards (this is average info and isn't perfect) you figure if He was aiming for center mass which is about 12-24in from the thigh, assuming a decent trigger pull. It could of been 165yards. But this is just guessing. He could of meant it as 100, or 65 yards not 165yards. And I have no refernce to caliber as he only refered to it as magnum bullets so I ran with the most common.
I am not trying to make an argument just talking... well typing.

200yd shot by bob munden with a 2" .38

I thought I read somewhere that he was shooting a 5 or 6" revolver. He doesn't look like a Glock guy.

I might have wanted to get involved/help, but I would probably have gone back in the house and gotten a rifle, with some glass on it.
I don't know that I have the confidence to take a 100 or 165 yard shot with a handgun. My deer rifle is a completly different story.

I need to take my pistol out to the range for some 100 yard shots :) should be interesting at least.

No doubt!! If somebody is shooting back I want a one shot and done type shot.

I have shot several pistols at 30yd and 50yd. I can stay in Center mass at 30 and 50, probably 6 inch or 7 inch groups at 50yd. if i do the arithmatic out to 150yds...50 X3 = 150, That's roughly 18 to 21inch groups at 150YDS. maybe still in Upper mass, but a long way from Center mass.

I referenced only aiming center mass he hit the guys thigh. LR pistol shooting is not impossible, but like the previous statements its easier done with a rifle and optics. Which I don't personally own. So if I was there my options would have been limited either try with a pistol or watch the perp and the officer shoot it out. Wonder how federal flight control buckshot preforms at 165yds...

I am not familiar with federal flight control... Is that a duck or goose round?
Most quail or dove shot is useless after about 80 or 90 yds,, unless the choke is tight enough to keep the pattern good. I saw a friend hit a quail at about 105 yards and roll him over..We tried to pace it, because I couldn't believe he killed it that far away.It was a long slow down hill grade, bird was dead as a door nail.
