Rifle barrel/gas and carbine stock?

Is this kind of combination possible? I noticed the Loki build auction rifle looks like it has a carbine stock and a rifle barrel w/ rifle gas. If this works, are there any important details to know? It would be nice to just have to buy a new barrel, gas plumbing, and hand-guard and not all the stock pieces, even though they'd be the overall cheapest items.

You can a run rifle length gas system with a carbine length buffer system. I have two rifles like this and they run great!
