Have you ever gotten to that point? That point we are just done? Has there ever been a time to where a place or thing of enjoyment has so much outside influences that are negative that is just driving you to the point of being done?

What was the thing? What was that breaking point? What was the straw that broke the camels back? Or, are you simply unbreakable? Are you the type they can just pull off everything and nothing bothers me?

Personally, for most people (at least, speaking for myself), I think you have to get to "that point" BEFORE you can successfully and truly reach the point where everything tends to roll off your back, like "water off a duck's back"!

For me, it was more a "process", than a one-off, instantaneous occurrence; certainly highlighted by little (& frequently, unpleasant) 'milestones' along the journey. But maybe not congealed and put into proper context until enough time had passed.

Not sure exactly when the process began for me, but by my early to mid-fifties, I had certainly reached "that point". Some may achieve it earlier than I did, but I've also witnessed that many folks don't reach it, until MUCH later in life. And for some folks, I doubt they'll ever reach that point.

If I present it as a "positive" thing rather than negative, it's because there are many attendant rewards associated with reaching "that point". Life is more calm and fulfilling, better and more complete perspectives are reached, and perhaps most importantly, ability to 'forgive' is more easily achieved.

Good question, Bender.

Oh(!).... my mistake. I always thought "life" was a hobby.... maybe that's why I never made it to the top of the corporate ladder! [emoji23]

I quit a good job I shouldn't have in 1984 after five years because they changed the pay plan and made me mad. The job I took was much worse, and I got my old job back the next year and stayed for five more years before I changed careers entirely. Then I left that company after five years to start a business, which quickly gained zero traction (if that makes sense) and I went back to the new career job and stayed ten more years.

I tend to quit things "more slowly" now. Because I realize my first instinct ain't always right.

Tongue in cheek, 2 marriages, & 1 Country:D. 25 yrs ago I left Toronto Canada, do to the "Multiculturalism" "PC" bullpoop that was taking over. That & the fact wife 1 was a crack head whore (lasted 6 months), #2 was the WWOTN (wicked witch of the north, (20 yr sentence lol)) so I paid her off, ($130K) & got the hell out of Dodge (aka Toronto).
I haven't looked back.

Now with all the Socialist/Demoncrap/divisiveness stuff going on It's like deja-vu. I'm too old to give a sh!t anymore. Just stay the fawk out of my life & we'll be OK.

Did not know you were Canadian,....Dad was born in Assiniboia, SA
They moved down when he was 11. They all went back a few years later, dad stayed here to Finnish high school. He joined the Army at the beginning of Vietnam, 1960. Got his citizenship while he was in.

fieldgrade, I think most all of us have some version or variant of your story. (I suppose, if we didn't, we may not have been trying to get ahead when we were younger). The way I see it now, being impatient is just part of "youth". What's the old saying(?).... 'Good judgement comes from experience.... and experience comes from bad decisions'. [emoji6]

Personally, I try to not 'look back' too much. Generally I don't see that exercise as being very constructive. But I suppose it's human nature to some extent, to wonder what you'd do differently if you had a "do over". What I've discovered is, even my mistakes led to some positive 'spinoff' or peripheral event I would NOT want to change!

I reached that point with the cable company in 1987, I was 29 years old.

I also realized that I retained control of the situation, not them.

I fired their ass in November of 1987. Have not paid one cable bill since then. Since that day, I have always able to get what I need from free off-air broadcast, Blockbuster, then later, Netflix and Hulu

And I'm about to fire Netflix . . .

I'm here, you're not
I put up with a lot from most, at some point I may reach the point where I'm done. I got that way work, several people I used to think were friends and a few other people I just don't need to punish myself by by continuing to know them.

@azpoolguy I am stealing that one. @Bender I don't know man. I think for me it is a decision best made on a case by case basis. My folks cut cable when I was a pup because the old man offered to kick the **** out of the cable guy when he said it would take 2 weeks to reconnect after a garbage truck pulled down the wire. I've never had it. Do miss baseball and hockey games but I've been off the nfl for a few years now so I don't care. As for forums, I've only ever stayed with two and this is one. If the other is one that you speak of (I suspect that it is but wouldn't put words in your mouth) ef em. Most of the good guys are here too. Ef the new ownership. Never given up on a hobbies because I don't like the bullshit from others though. As my grandfather and namesake famously said "If the f*ckin you get, ain't worth the f*ckin you get, f*ck em."
