Handguard length on a 16" barrel

I have a sling stud that I use to mount a bipod set where I want to grab the hand guard. I don't have to worry about getting too close to the comp with an 18" barrel but its nice to have something to index to without adding any perceptible weight.

Definitely, 16" carbine with a standard 12" length rifle tube on it. It doesn't seem too short and handles well, but it's definitely not as comfortable as the 15" handguard on rifle.
