I have a Colt 22 L.R. conversion unit. I am trying to find out the date if manufacture if possible. The following describes the markings on all sides of the unit and it's accessories.

LEFT SIDE
CONVERSION UNIT
COLTAUTOMATIC CAL. 22 L.R.
VERTICAL SERRATIONS
RIGHT SIDE
COLT'S MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. USA
VERTICAL SERRATIONS
COLT
SLIDE
22 L.R.

CLIP --- COLT 22 L.R.
There are not any other letters or markings on the slide.

The box is a dark brown leatherette texture, and the top label was dull gold logo shown in the photo above. The inside of the box is dark green. The top of the box has the colt logo in gold. In the bottom of the box it shows in gold is the following.

COLT

COLT'S MANUFACTURING , CO.

HARTFORD CONN. U.S.A

The box has dividers inside. The left side of the box has COLT in green.

Your Colt .22 Conversion Unit dates to the 1950-1953 time period. The "tells" are the Coltmaster rear sight which was used from 1947-1953, the barrel hood stamping which first appeared in 1950, and the right side slide address of "Colt's MFG Co" which was changed in 1955. The "Magazine" (NOT CLIP!) appears to be period correct with the pinned baseplate. It should have a pot metal magazine follower. I don't see the recoil spring or the slide stop which came with all Colt .22 Conversion Units. The slide stop should be stamped #2 on the inside flat. The stamped ejector is also period correct as well as the box you show is also period correct for your Colt .22 Conversion Unit.

Thank you for your reply. I inherited a Colt 1911 from a WW2 relative along with the conversion unit. The 1911 was manufactured by Remington in 1943 according to the Colt serial number records. The hood cover on the conversion unit is pristine, however, the barrel shows some wear. There is not coil spring with the slide. However, the 1911 coil spring works fine with it. I was given a substantial appraisal when I spoke with a collector by phone if it is all perioc correct.. Was hoping the conversion unit would from WW2 era as this would make it much more valuable.
